| Innovation Title | JITAHIDI NA AFYA YAKO |
| Focus Area | Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), including maternal health |
| Problem Statement: | In the project area, SRH literacy continues to negatively impact adolescents. The policy framework for providing sexual education in learning institutions has limited the passage of information to young teenagers in light of early sexual debuts. Lack of youth-friendly services and the inaccessibility of contraceptives continue to pose a great threat to maternal health, family planning, and the safe use of contraceptives. Lack of information centers on SRH, especially in addressing misinformation that comes with SRHR. In light of peer educators and programs running SRH issues, the majority lack information on issues of SRHR, thus requiring a capacity-building initiative. |
| Innovation Description: | JITAHIDI NA AFYA YAKO -SRH INNOVATION TOOL PRINCIPALS OF JITAHIDI NA AFYA YAKO -SRH COMPONENTS OF JITAHIDI NA AFYA YAKO -SRH The above interventions are mainstreamed within The comprehensive sexual Education for SRH and GBV JITAHIDI NA AFYA YAKO -SRH Intervention Pathways: Organogram 1. Referrals SRH-Partners HEALTH-Intervention |
| Uniqueness and Innovation: | The intended innovation is a multi-sectoral response approach that addresses the SRH focusing on reducing the intensity caused by Health related challenges e.g Reproductive health, Mental health, and sexual health in order to handle trauma and offer long-lasting solution to the adolescent’s SRH. |
| Impact and Scalability: | The innovation is flexible using a multi sectoral approach. One is able to scale up the operations as determined by the implementation strategy of the organization. i.e. Simama CBO partakes this implementation strategy on bold initiative in increasing knowledge on SRH through TOT training, Usage of Sports and Arts. Through capacity building of 75 TOTs 25 spread among the three localities, they will remain to be key ambassadors of SRH information, thus occupying the sustainability of the program. With strict government policy on sexual education, our approach will be an out of school program through sports and Arts where we will integrate the TOTs in doing the programs. Arts as a participatory tool, will entail edutainment and talking walls through graffiti, where key messages targeting the visual aid, will be put in strategic places as a reminder to the society on their role on issues surrounding SRHR. |
| Implementation Plan: | The following are our implementation plan. Objective 2; to enhance capacity and commitment of the Youth to self-driven impact in addressing Sexual Reproductive Health Rights lack of information in Korogocho, Kariobangi and Dandora. Workshops and trainings will be done in December and part of January. Objective3 ; to reduce knowledge gap on Sexual Reproductive Health Rights information amongst young people aged 15-22 years by 10% in Korogocho, Kariobangi and Dandora. |
